Earlier this month, our Montessori adult learners gathered at Oslo Montessori school for an intensive and inspiring eight days of preparation and assessment with European Montessori College. Over the course of four days (times two), adult learners immersed themselves in hands-on workshops to practise for their practical examinations — a vital step in their Montessori training. We welcomed adult leaerns studying for all age groups between 3 and 18 years.

This week held special significance for us as a college, as it coincided with our Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) reaccreditation onsite visit — a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to high-quality Montessori teacher education.

Preparing for the Exams

Our adult learners arrived ready to refine their skills and deepen their understanding of Montessori pedagogy. For three days, they worked closely with our experienced trainers, practising presentations, discussing key principles, and supporting one another as they prepared for the practical assessments in both Module A and Module B.

The atmosphere was one of focus, collaboration, and mutual encouragement. Everywhere you looked, there were materials being laid out, lively discussions, and a deep sense of purpose. The workshops provided not just technical preparation, but also a reminder of the beauty of the Montessori method — calm, ordered, and centred on respect for the learner.

As one adult learners shared, “It felt like everything we’ve learned came together this week — not just in what we could do, but in how we approached the work, with care and mindfulness.”

The Exam Day

On the fourth day, the atmosphere shifted slightly — a quiet concentration filled the training rooms as adult learners demonstrated their understanding and confidence. The practical exams are a moment of synthesis, where theory and practice meet.

Each adult learner had the opportunity to present Montessori activities and demonstrate their knowledge and skill. It was inspiring to witness their growth, the culmination of months of study and practice. There were many moments of nervousness but also joy and laughter. At the end of this exam day we said goodbye to many of our adult learners, wishing them well in the next stage of their Montessori journey. We hope to meet many of them in the years to come.

MACTE Reaccreditation Visit

At the same time, we were honoured to welcome the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) team for our reaccreditation visit — our first in seven years.

The visit included one onsite verifier and three additional team members joining live via Zoom. Over several days, the verifiers met with staff, faculty, and adult learners, observed classes, reviewed documentation, and explored the systems that support our teacher education programs.

We are delighted to share that we feel the visit went extremely well (we are waiting for a formal evalaution as I write this). The team’s feedback was thoughtful and affirming, reflecting their appreciation for our continued dedication to authentic Montessori practice and quality assurance. Their observations highlighted the professionalism of our trainers and the strong sense of community among our adult learners.

We had the wonderful opportunity of taking the onsite verifier to a beautiful Montessori school that several of our adult learners attend for their Classroom Practice. He said that it might be one of the best Montessori environments he has ever been in – this was not only  atribute to the school and kindergarten but to how Montessori appears to be thriving in Norway.

Community and Collaboration

What stood out most during this busy and meaningful week was the spirit of togetherness. Staff and adult learners supported one another, shared experiences, and exchanged words of encouragement. There was laughter as well as deep reflection, a true embodiment of Montessori’s principle that education is not just preparation for life, but life itself.

This week reminded us that Montessori teacher education is about much more than passing exams — it’s about transformation. It’s about becoming observant, respectful, and compassionate guides for children across all ages.

European Montessori College continues to lead the way in Montessori teacher training in Norway and Europe. Events like this not only enhance professional skills but also build a vibrant community of educators committed to nurturing the whole child.

As our adult learners move forward — completing final written work or classroom practice, preparing for graduation, or taking their next steps into Montessori classrooms — we celebrate their achievements and dedication.
